Poverty Reduction through Adoption of Advanced Technology (PRAAT)

BEES has started executing Poverty Reduction through Adoption of Advanced Technology (PRAAT) project under Agricultural Technology Transfer (ATT) project supported by Winrock International (WI) in collaboration with Bangladesh Agricultural Research Coulcil (BARC) since October 2006 at Monohordi upazilla of Narsingdi district and Sadar upazila of Brahmanbaria district for implementing tissue cultured banana production and semi-scavenging poultry rearing respectively. The key objectives of the project are to a) transfer profitable, sustainable, adaptive technologies among 60 banana growers and 90 poultry rears; b) establish 30 tissue cultured banana production plots and 30 semi- scavenging poultry rearing farms c) promote/establish contract production among resource poor farmers (RPFs), local traders and other stakeholders through banana production and poultry rearing; d) increase production and income level of RPFs through tissue culture banana production and semi-scavenging poultry rearing ; e) increase capacity building among RPFs, local traders and all other stakeholders; f) strengthen research-extension activities in the sub-project area and ensure marketing channel. The activities are being operated for the marginal farmers on the basis of pilot initiatives.
